Asbestos removal and abatement in Northwest Arkansas
If your building predates the 1990s, asbestos is a question you have to answer before demolition or renovation, often before a permit will issue. Surfco tests, abates and documents it.
Asbestos shows up in floor tile and mastic, popcorn ceilings, joint compound, pipe insulation, siding, roofing and duct wrap. Undisturbed, most of it is stable. The danger starts when someone cuts, sands or demolishes it without knowing it is there.
We coordinate testing, build regulated containment with negative air and HEPA filtration, remove and manifest the material through licensed disposal, and support third-party clearance air sampling before the space is released back for construction.
Step by step
Abatement process
Testing and survey
Suspect material sampled and analyzed by an accredited lab before any work is planned.
Notification and containment
Required notifications filed; regulated containment built with negative air and HEPA filtration.
Removal and disposal and clearance and turnover
Material removed under wet methods by licensed technicians and manifested to a licensed disposal facility. Third-party clearance air sampling, then the space is released for construction.

Questions we get asked
Do I legally have to test before demolition?
For commercial and most pre-1990s structures, yes, testing and, where applicable, notification are required before demolition or renovation that disturbs suspect material.
Is asbestos dangerous if we leave it alone?
Intact, undisturbed material is generally stable. Damaged, deteriorating or about-to-be-disturbed material is the risk, and that is what abatement addresses.
Can we stay in the building during abatement?
Occupants are kept out of the regulated area. Depending on the scope and building, the rest of the building can often stay in use.
